Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry, and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for 4×4 vehicle use
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Prepare the 4×4 vehicle for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Attach and set trailed implements ready for operation
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of 4×4 and attachment
- Carry out all end of work and shut down procedures
Entry Requirements
For Experienced Worker Test (EWT):
Candidates must have successfully completed the 4×4 Off-Road Vehicle course or possess equivalent knowledge and at least 3 months of practical experience operating a 4×4 off-road vehicle.
For Novice Course:
No prior qualifications or experience are required, though industry knowledge is helpful.
Age Requirement:
Participants must be at least 16 years old.
Language Proficiency:
A good understanding of both spoken and written English is required to ensure safety and successful participation in assessments.
Course assessment
The assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components:
Theoretical Assessment:
A written test covering key safety practices, 4×4 off-road vehicle operation, and maintenance.
Practical Assessment:
A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to safely operate the 4×4 off-road vehicle in various scenarios.
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in 4×4 off-road vehicle operation.
