Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular static concrete placing boom to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the static concrete placing boom and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for static concrete placing boom use
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Prepare the static concrete placing boom for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Be able to work to environmental and site considerations when cleaning of the concrete placing boom and pipework takes place or when dealing with blockages
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Entry Requirements
- Previous Qualification: Candidates must have relevant experience or training in operating concrete placing booms.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 months practical experience operating a static concrete placing boom is recommended for experienced training.
- Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 16 years old.
- Language Proficiency: A good understanding of spoken and written English is required for safety and assessments.
Course assessment
The assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components:
- Theoretical Assessment: A written test covering key safety practices, machine operation, and maintenance.
- Practical Assessment: A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to operate the static concrete placing boom safely and effectively in various scenarios.
- Experienced Workers, the assessment focuses on validating your existing skills through the Experienced Worker Test (Test Only).
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in static concrete placing boom operation.
