We offer two NPORS Shoring (Install, Inspect, Remove) – N049 training options:

Novice Course
This 3-day course provides essential training on the safe installation, inspection, and removal of shoring systems. Upon completion, participants will receive NPORS certification, ensuring safe and compliant operations within your business.

Refresher Course
For those who need to renew their skills and certification, this refresher course provides an update on the latest safety practices and regulations for shoring systems. Upon completion, participants will receive NPORS certification, maintaining their competency in shoring installation, inspection, and removal.

Note: Experienced worker tests are not available for this category.

Course Objectives

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities regarding shoring installation, inspection and removal
  • Have a knowledge of the equipment to be used. Be conversant with Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Permits to Work
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for use
  • Ensure all pre-excavating checks including exploratory tasks have been carried out and agree emergency procedures
  • Be able to identify installation requirements including resources required and manufacturers information
  • Identify the risks that excavations can present and how people may be affected
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and visually inspect excavations prior to entry
  • Identify ground conditions, ground water conditions, soil, sand, clays, and gravel types and how they affect ground stability
  • Identify the risks of excavating near to underground services and the safe digging practices that should be adopted
  • Install, maintain and remove timber, steel and proprietary support systems
  • Use appropriate access equipment to ensure safe access and egress into the excavation and prevent unauthorised access
  • Support excavations with traditional and proprietary systems
  • Understand the implications of working in confined spaces and working at height
  • Environmental conditions
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

Entry Requirements

Previous Qualification

  • Refresher Course: Participants should have previously completed the Shoring (Install, Inspect, Remove) training or have relevant practical experience. This course is designed to refresh knowledge and skills to ensure competency is maintained.

Experience

  • Novice Course: No prior experience is necessary, though a basic understanding of construction or safety protocols is helpful.
  • Refresher Course: A minimum of 3 months on-the-job experience or attendance in relevant training is required to ensure participants have a solid foundation in shoring practices and can effectively benefit from the refresher course.

Age Requirement
All participants must be at least 16 years old.

Language Proficiency
A good understanding of English, both spoken and written, is required to ensure safety and successful participation in assessments. This is essential to communicate effectively, follow safety instructions, and understand course material and evaluations.

Course assessment

Theoretical Assessment
A written test covering key safety practices, regulations, and techniques for installing, inspecting, and removing shoring systems safely, including hazard identification and safe working practices.

Practical Assessment
A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to safely install, inspect, and remove shoring systems in various scenarios.

Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in shoring installation, inspection, and removal.

We offer flexible training options at one of our centres in Coventry, Milton Keynes, and Leeds, or at a location of your choice to suit your convenience
