We offer two NPORS Telescopic Handler Suspended Loads – N138 training options:

Novice Course
For new operators, this course provides essential training on the safe operation and control of telescopic handlers when handling suspended loads. Upon completion, participants will receive NPORS certification, ensuring safe and efficient operations within your business.

Experienced Worker Test
For experienced operators, this test allows your team to demonstrate their skills in handling suspended loads with telescopic handlers, earning NPORS certification to validate their expertise in safe operations and task handling.

Course Objectives

It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions onand perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Be able to conform to manufacturers requirements as per technical data, conform to relevant regulations and legislation
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify the steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufactures and legislative requirements
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine
  • Start and stop the engine safely move the machine off and stop it safely
  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely laden and unladen, over varying terrain, rough ground, inclines, in open and confined areas
  • Conduct all safety checks at the work area
  • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out lifting and load handling tasks
  • Be able to locate, identify and explain safe working loads, lifting capacity chart and explain how the manufacturer may reduce the lifting capacity when moving a suspended load, different lifting configurations and working ranges
  • Identify and explain different lifting procedures, explain what task could fall into each category
  • Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads
  • Identify any overhead / proximity hazards
  • Be able to agree the signal codes / hand signals, direction of movement, safe working and safe landing placement zone with the slinger / signaller
  • Ensure telescopic handler is in a safe condition and attachments fitted correctly
  • Checked load integrity and security
  • Be able to lift and move a load to a designated position in a safe and controlled manner, ensuring minimum uncontrolled movement
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all out of service and securing procedures

Entry Requirements

Previous Qualification
Candidates must have successfully completed the relevant telescopic handler training or possess equivalent experience and knowledge in operating telescopic handlers safely.

Experience
A minimum of 3 months practical experience in operating telescopic handlers is recommended, though not essential. Onsite industry experience is also helpful in ensuring participants are familiar with the work environment and operational tasks.

Age Requirement
All participants must be at least 16 years old.

Language Proficiency
A good understanding of English, both spoken and written, is required to ensure safety and successful participation in assessments.

Note: The course assumes that suspended loads will be slung by a qualified slinger/signaller. If operators sling their own loads, they must also be qualified and authorised slinger/signallers.

This course provides the skills needed for safe and effective telescopic handler operation with suspended loads.

Course assessment

Theoretical Assessment
A written test covering key safety practices, regulations, and techniques for operating telescopic handlers with suspended loads safely, including hazard identification and safe working practices.

Practical Assessment
A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to safely operate a telescopic handler with suspended loads and manage the equipment in various scenarios.

Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in telescopic handler suspended load operation.
