We offer three NPORS Wood Chipper – Shredder – N603 training options:
Novice Course:
This course is designed for new operators and covers the essential training required for the safe operation and responsibilities of a wood chipper and shredder. Upon successful completion, participants will receive NPORS certification, ensuring they are equipped to operate the equipment safely and efficiently, contributing to overall site safety within your business.
Experienced Worker Test:
Tailored for experienced workers, this test allows your team to showcase their existing skills and earn NPORS certification. It validates their expertise in wood chipper and shredder operation, site safety, and task management, ensuring they meet the necessary standards.
Refresher Course:
For individuals with prior experience and certification, this course serves to refresh and update their knowledge, ensuring compliance with current safety practices and regulations. Participants will receive NPORS certification upon successful completion.

Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions onand perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Select suitable type of machine relative to the work being undertaken
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for wood chipper- shredder use
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Prepare the wood chipper – shredder for use
- Operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of wood chipper – shredder
- Disposal of cut materials
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedure
Entry Requirements
Previous Qualification
Candidates must have completed relevant wood chipper and shredder training or have equivalent experience and knowledge in safe operation.
Experience
A minimum of 3 months practical experience with wood chippers and shredders is recommended, though not required. Onsite industry experience is beneficial.
Age Requirement
Participants must be at least 16 years old.
Language Proficiency
A good understanding of both spoken and written English is required for safety and assessment participation.
Course assessment
Theoretical Assessment
A written test on safety practices, regulations, hazard identification, equipment operation, and site-specific procedures for wood chipper and shredder use.
Practical Assessment
A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to safely operate a wood chipper and shredder, follow safety protocols, and manage tasks on-site.
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, confirming your competency in operating a wood chipper and shredder.
