Abrasive Wheels – N301
We offer NPORS training for both beginners and those needing a refresher:
- Novice Course: Covers safe operation, tool handling, and industry best practices. Certification is awarded upon completion. Course duration is ½ day or 1 day, depending on your needs.
Note: The experienced worker test is not available for this course.

Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook and be familiar with other sources of information available including relevant legislation
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for cutting or grinding machine
- Select suitable type of abrasive wheel and machine relative to the work being undertaken.
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and set up safety zone
- Prepare the machine for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of abrasive wheel machine
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Entry Requirements
- Age Requirement: All participants must be at least 16 years old.
- Language Proficiency: A good understanding of English, both spoken and written, is required to ensure safety and successful participation in assessments.
- Physical Requirement: All participants must be able-bodied to undertake the physical strain required safely when using abrasive wheels.
Course assessment
The assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components:
- Theoretical Assessment: A written test covering key safety practices, abrasive wheel operation, and maintenance.
- Practical Assessment: A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to safely operate abrasive wheels in various scenarios.
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in abrasive wheel operation.

- On-site Training: Training can be arranged nationwide at your site, provided it meets the necessary safety and test specifications. Enquire for further details.
