Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an Excavation Marshall – Banksperson
- Have knowledge of the equipment to be used and be conversant with Method Statements – Risk Assessments – Permits to work
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for use
- Conduct all pre-excavating checks
- Agree communication signals and emergency procedures
- Safe positioning of Excavation Marshall – Banksperson
- Define and identify the different types of underground services
- Identify risks that excavations can present and how people may be affected
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Carry out exploratory tasks
- Identify the risks of excavating near to underground services, and the safe digging practices that should be adopted
- Carry out all end of shift and safe storage procedures
Entry Requirements
- Previous Qualification: Candidates must have relevant experience or training in excavation marshalling.
- Experience: For experienced training, a minimum of 6 months practical experience in excavation marshalling is recommended. For novice training, no prior experience is required, but basic knowledge of site safety is helpful.
- Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 16 years old.
- Language Proficiency: A good understanding of spoken and written English is required for safety and assessments.
Course assessment
The assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components:
- Theoretical Assessment: A written test covering key safety practices, marshalling, and site safety.
- Practical Assessment: A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to perform excavation marshalling tasks safely and effectively in various scenarios.
- Experienced Workers, the assessment focuses on validating your existing skills through the Experienced Worker Test (Test Only).
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in excavation marshalling.
