Novice Course
If you’re new to dozer operation, our NPORS Dozer Novice Course provides comprehensive training in machine operation, material handling, and industry best practices. Upon completion, you’ll receive NPORS certification, preparing you for a successful career in construction and earthworks.

Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for dozer use
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Prepare the dozer for use, operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Attach and set trailed, mounted attachments ready for work
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of implements and attachments
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Entry Requirements
- NPORS Dozer – N215 Course – Entry Requirements
- Previous Qualification: No specific qualifications are required, but prior experience operating heavy machinery is beneficial.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 months practical experience operating dozers or similar equipment is recommended to ensure readiness for the course.
- Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 18 years old.
- Language Proficiency: A proficient understanding and communication in English are required for safety and assessment purposes.
Course assessment
The assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components:
- Theoretical Assessment: A written test covering key safety practices, machine operation, and maintenance.
- Practical Assessment: A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to operate the dozer safely and effectively in various scenarios.
- Experienced Worker Test (Test Only): For experienced workers, the assessment focuses on validating your existing skills in dozer operation.
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in dozer operation.
