The NPORS Grader (Experienced) course is designed for operators with prior experience who seek to formalise their skills and enhance their competency. This comprehensive training ensures you operate the grader safely and efficiently, meeting industry standards and improving workplace safety.
The NPORS Grader (Novice) course provides in-depth training on the effective and safe operation of a grader. Tailored for novice operators, this course covers the fundamentals of the machine while introducing techniques and best practices aligned with current industry regulations.

Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for Grader use
- Prepare the Grader for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Entry Requirements
- Previous Qualification: Candidates must have successfully completed the relevant earth-moving equipment course or possess equivalent experience and knowledge in operating the grader.
- Experience: A minimum of 4 months of practical experience operating the grader is recommended.
- Age Requirement: All participants must be at least 16 years old.
- Language Proficiency: Proficient understanding and communication in English are required for safety and assessment purposes.
Course assessment
The assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components:
- Theoretical Assessment: A written test covering key safety practices, machine operation, and maintenance.
- Practical Assessment: A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to operate the grader safely and effectively in various scenarios.
- Experienced Worker Test (Test Only): For experienced workers, the assessment focuses on validating your existing skills in grader operation.
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in grader operation.
