NPORS Skid Steer (Experienced) course is designed for operators with prior experience seeking to formalise their skills and enhance their competency. This comprehensive training ensures you operate Skid Steer safely and efficiently, meeting industry standards and improving workplace safety.
The NPORS Skid Steer (Novice) course provides in-depth training on the effective and safe operation of Skid Steer. Tailored for novice operators, this course covers knowledge of the machine while introducing techniques and best practices aligned with current industry regulations.

Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for skidsteer loader use
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Prepare the skidsteer loader for use, operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of implements and attachments
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Entry Requirements
- Previous Qualification: Candidates must have successfully completed the Skid Steer course or possess equivalent experience and knowledge in operating the machine.
- Experience: A minimum of 4 months of practical experience operating the machine is recommended.
- Age Requirement: All participants must be at least 16 years old.
- Language Proficiency: Proficient understanding and communication in English are required for safety and assessment purposes.
Course assessment
The assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components:
- Theoretical Assessment: A written test covering key safety practices, machine operation, and maintenance.
- Practical Assessment: A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to operate the skid steer loader safely and effectively in various scenarios.
For Experienced Workers, the assessment focuses on validating your existing skills through the Experienced Worker Test (Test Only).
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in skid steer loader operation.
