Experienced Worker Test
For experienced workers, this test allows your team to demonstrate their skills and earn NPORS certification, validating their expertise in road planer operation, site safety, and task handling.
Novice Course
For upskilling, this course provides essential training on safe road planer operation and control. Upon completion, they’ll receive NPORS certification, ensuring safe and efficient operations within your business.

Course Objectives
- It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for planer use
- Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Safely mount and dismount the machine
- Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out planing tasks
- Carry out planing tasks and load material into transporting vehicles or containers
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
- Environmental considerations
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Entry Requirements
Previous Qualification
Candidates must have successfully completed the relevant Road Planer training or possess equivalent experience and knowledge in operating road planers.
Experience
A minimum of 3 months practical experience in operating a road planer is recommended.
Age Requirement
All participants must be at least 16 years old.
Language Proficiency
A good understanding of English, both spoken and written, is required to ensure safety and successful participation in assessments.
Course assessment
Theoretical Assessment
A written test covering key safety practices, road planer operation, and maintenance procedures.
Practical Assessment
A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to safely operate a road planer in various scenarios.
Experienced Worker Test (Test Only)
For experienced workers, the assessment focuses on validating your existing skills in operating road planers.
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in road planer operation.
