We offer two NPORS Road Roller training options tailored for both experienced operators and beginners:
- Experienced Worker Test
For those with hands-on experience, our NPORS Road Roller Experienced Worker Test allows you to demonstrate your skills and earn the official NPORS certification. You’ll be assessed on your understanding of road roller operation, site safety, and handling of tasks, enhancing your employability in various industries, including construction and civil engineering. - Novice Course
If you’re new to road roller operation, our NPORS Road Roller Novice Course provides essential training on safe operation, machine control, and industry best practices. Upon completion, you’ll receive NPORS certification, preparing you for a career in road roller operation.

Course Objectives
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for roller use
- Prepare the roller for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Entry Requirements
- Previous Qualification: Candidates must have successfully completed the Ride On Roller course or possess equivalent experience and knowledge in operating the machine.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 months practical experience operating the machine is recommended.
- Age Requirement: All participants must be at least 16 years old.
- Language Proficiency: A good understanding of English, both spoken and written, is required to ensure safety and successful participation in assessments.
Course assessment
The assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components:
- Theoretical Assessment: A written test covering key safety practices, road roller operation, and maintenance.
- Practical Assessment: A hands-on test where you demonstrate your ability to safely operate the road roller in various scenarios.
- Experienced Worker Test (Test Only): For experienced workers, the assessment focuses on validating your existing skills in road roller operation.
Upon successful completion, you will receive NPORS certification, validating your competency in road roller operation.
